GNR Shefford

GNR Shefford is a private agricultural biomethanization project integrated into the Sauvé Family Farm in Shefford, Quebec, aimed at producing renewable natural gas (RNG) from agricultural organic matter, including manure from its own cattle and from neighboring farmers around the farm. The project follows a circular economy approach, where materials from agriculture are valorized locally to produce renewable energy and high-quality natural fertilizers.

The project is driven by a commitment to keep an ancestral farm active, whose land requires proper nutrient amendment, while integrating an innovative organic matter management solution. This integration helps support the farm’s viability, preserve its ties to the land, and contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural community, notably by helping protect waterways.

In collaboration with specialized technology partners, mostly based in Quebec and Canada, the project is part of the Quebec government’s Renewable Natural Gas Production Support Program (PSPGNR).

Through its integrated, family-run agricultural model, GNR Shefford illustrates a concrete approach to renewable energy production rooted in the local territory and directly connected to the realities of Quebec’s agricultural sector.
